Veterans Day Tribute

Today, November 11, 2009, is the annual day of remembrance of those brave soldiers who served and are serving our United States of America. The original day was set at the signing of the Armistice in the 11th hour, on the 11th day, of the 11th month in 1918, formally ending the hostilities of World War I. Many thanks to the young men who have made possible the lives that the population in the USA now enjoy.

Historical Podcasts Available in New Ulm, MN!

A walking historical tour of New Ulm is available at the Chamber of Commerce. The tour is not just learning about buildings, but stories about people who lived here as well as those who passed through. To name a few, you will hear about Carrie Nation, Henry David Thoreau, Whoopee John Wilfahrt, Governor John Lind, and Wanda Gag. What a great way to learn about this interesting history and get some exercise as well.

Walnut Grove, MN - Laura Ingalls Wilder

It is amazing how much influence around the world that the TV show, "Little House on the Prairie," has worked to make Walnut Grove and Laura Ingalls famous. The Wilder Trail begins in Pepin, Wisconsin; treks south to Indpendence, KS; then heads north to Walnut Grove, MN, (New Ulm, MN, is enroute); and further west to DeSmet, SD. We have had guests from various parts of the country stay with us as well as a couple from England, who came specifically to blaze the Wilder trail, and attend the Wilder Pageant that is held weekends in Walnut Grove during the month of July. We had another guest stay with us who came from Japan because of the desire to explore this historic trail. This year the pageant promises to be as interesting as every and we hope that many more visitors discover and enjoy the history of a family growing up on the prairie in the late 1800's.

Congrats to the New Ulm Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureau

At the Deutsche Strasse Bed and Breakfast we are excited to see the launch of the new and improved NewUlm.com Website . As the internet changes and upgrades it is so important to keep New Ulm and its presence on the web. Great job in helping get the best kept secret out there! New Ulm - known as the town of festivals, Christmas City, The Most German Community in the United States, and the city of Charm and Tradition.

Meet Your Hosts - Gary & Ramona Sonnenberg

Gary & Ramona have been Innkeeping for the past ten years and have enjoyed providing quality accommodations for travelers from across the United States as well as from around the world. The Deutsche Strasse opened Valentine's Day weekend in 1998, and Ramona smiles as she relates the story that some husbands just take their wives to a Bed and Breakfast for that holiday, but her husband loved her so much that he bought her the whole thing!

Many of our guests return again and again as New Ulm provides a relaxed atmosphere and has so many things to do from touring the Morgan Creek Vineyards or the August Schell Brewery to visiting the Brown County Historic Museum or hiking at Flandrau State Park. Shopping in the unique specialty shops of New Ulm is another attraction. Our bed and breakfast serves as a home away from home for travelers. Many of our guests return to stay with us again and again and we feel that part of that motivation comes from the desire for more of Ramona's homemade foods and signature breakfast blend coffee and Gary's (aka The Dumbwaiter) banter while serving breakfast.

Come visit us and learn the true meaning of, "Wake Up and Smell the Coffee!"
