This past weekend, my husband and I chose to dine at Lola's and we were very pleasantly surprised. Starting with the appetizers the flavors were so intense and fresh, we enjoyed every mouthful. Our choices were the Sausage Stuffed Mushrooms and Artichoke Flatbread. Both were prepared upon ordering and it was well worth the wait. Our dinner choices were White Lasagna (the special for the day and only $9.95) with a side of a Caesar salad and the Grilled shrimp, asparagus and asiago risotto, caper tarragon butter. Both were absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. The service was attentive and we were so full that we needed to take home some of our meals. For a full dining experience, Lola's has a wine menu and wonderful desserts. We recommend that when in New Ulm, give Lola's a try. The restaurant is within walking distance of the Deutsche Strasse Bed and Breakfast in New Ulm.

On March 26 & 27, 2010 the Prairie Piecemakers Quilt Guild proudly presents Quilt Show 2010. Plans are being made and hopes are that there will be over 300 quilts on display. Share a unique fabric experience with specialty shops, demonstrations, door prizes and a parade of quilts. There will also be a ladies lunch available. New Ulm Trade Fair - 29th Annual

The New Ulm Trade Fair and Living History Event is being held at Turner Hall in New Ulm, on Saturday, March 13, and Sunday, March 14. There is much to learn when shopping the various tables and visiting with the vendors. Demonstrations are given as well. This event reminds the proprietors at the Deutsche Strasse Bed and Breakfast of the annual Rendevouz that is held in Prairie du Chien in the hot month of June. We attending that event several times and usually the humidity was high as well as the temperatures. The New Ulm Trade Fair is ideal as it is an indoors event as winter is ending and humankind is experiencing cabin fever. If you plan to attend the New Ulm Trade Fair, give us a call to reserve your room and mention our blog. Schell's 150th Anniversary Pub Crawl in New Ulm, MN!

The newly introduced beer will be available after 8 p.m. at all of the pubs after the ceremonial keg is tapped. At your first stop, pick up a Schell's Pub Crawl Card. For each visit and new brew sampled, have the card punched. Cross Country Skiing or Snowshoeing at Flandrau State Park

We have snow! New Ulm has seven inches of new snow and a great state park with groomed trails just on the edge of the town. The park rents both the cross country skis and snow shoes. Come spend the weekend and enjoy the tranquility of being out in the woods and getting exercise. Black Friday Is Not Just About Shopping

In the quaint and charming town of New Ulm, Minnesota, shopping isn't necessarily the focus of the day. At 6 p.m. on Friday, November 27, Santa comes into town in the Annual Parade of Lights. If you go downtown you will see this parade of about 50 entries and participants most definitely use their imaginations when designing their floats. After the parade, A Live Nativity is being presented at George's Ballroom, which is found on Center Street, towards the east from Minnesota Street;the parade route. Christmas not only changed the world's calendar and created a huge holiday, it also changed people's lives. Come experience an old fashioned Christmas. Get away from the crowds. Veterans Day Tribute

Today, November 11, 2009, is the annual day of remembrance of those brave soldiers who served and are serving our United States of America. The original day was set at the signing of the Armistice in the 11th hour, on the 11th day, of the 11th month in 1918, formally ending the hostilities of World War I. Many thanks to the young men who have made possible the lives that the population in the USA now enjoy.
