The Holidays are Coming!

We hear on the radio about weight gain, shopping days left, gas prices rising, and all sort of other depressing news. At the Deutsche Strasse B&B we are counting our blessings as Thanksgiving approaches. It would be just wonderful if "good" news would sell and everyone realize how good we have it in our country; there is always someone who has it much worse. Bed & Breakfast Receives 2009 Best of New Ulm Award!

It was quite a surprise when the Deutsche Strasse Bed and Breakfast received an email from the U.S. Commerce Association informing us that we were selected for the "Best of Local Business" Award. The USCA identifies companies that they believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and community. The 2009 USCA Award Program focused on quality, not quantity. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the USCA and data provided by third parties. Gary and I have been innkeepers for twelve years and are honored to have been selected as one of these small businesses honored.

Annual Hayfield Fire Department Fun Run/Walk a Success

This year attendance for the Fun Run/Walk was up by approximately 40 participants. Adults and children had a great time running or walking or "helping" the volunteer firemen with their fire hoses. The photo is of Johann Sonnenberg helping one of his nephews with the fire hose.

We are proud to announce that the Deutsche Strasse Bed & Breakfast is one of many sponsors for the 2nd Annual Hayfield Fire Department Fun Run/Walk. All proceeds go to Hayfield Fire Department Fundraising, Inc., to help offset the cost of more advanced training for the Hayfield Fire Department. This Run/Walk event is for kids and adults and will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2009. Facebook - Another Window to the World

In conversing with our many guests and business contacts, the name of "Facebook" keeps coming up in the conversation. I see mutual friends and tell them about some family news and they already know about it, not via "word of mouth", but by Facebook. We thought that the Deutsche Strasse Bed & Breakfast should be listed in one of the Groups, but there are so many groups to from which to choose. Perhaps someday we will be internationally known via Facebook!

New In Town - The Movie

On Friday, January 30, the movie starring Harry Connick, Jr. and Renee Zellweger premiered. This movie was filmed in Canada, but set in New Ulm, Minnesota. If you watch carefully, early in the movie when Zellweger is driving through the downtown of the fictitious New Ulm, you will briefly see a uniformed doorman standing on the sidewalk in front of the Deutsche Strasse Inn.
